5 Essays - World Wide Web, Social Media, Computing, Free Essays

5 Essays - World Wide Web, Social Media, Computing, Free Essays Historical development of twitter Student's name Institution affiliation Instructor's name Course Date of submission Introduction In recent times social media has dramatically developed across the world. One of the social media that has seen adverse developments is twitter. Twitter has significantly improved to become one of the largest social media platforms across the globe. Twitter has become one of the most popular social networks used in the modern world, but it started as a micro-blogging platform ( Zappavigna, 2017 ) . The history twitter dates back to the year 2006 when its initiator jack Dorsey gave birth to this knowledge . It was initially used to platform for sending mess ages that people used to keep tabs with one another. Its initial name was Twttr , a name that was suggested by Noah Glass who at the time was specialized in software development. Twitter has gone through numerous changes thus making it one of the most leadin g social media across the world. In 2006 it was the principal founder of twitter Mr. Jack was able to send the first tweet. At the time Twitter was developing its users were supposed to spend hundreds of dollars to pay for service charges for sending SMS using their phones ( Gruber, etal, 2015 ) . During this time twitter faced a significant challenge due to the release Apple platform which essentially killed ideas business idea, this called for the owner's efforts to buy their company from the investors. At this time Twitter was facing a lot of challenges and controversies, this affected one of the critical founder Noah Glass who was left out of the new company. At the time Twitter has developed i t had a limit of 140 characters, this was because its founders had developed a platform for exchanging messages and during the inv ention period to carry characters . However, this has seen dramatic changes in the past years to overcome this challenge. By the year 2017 Twitter has developed and increased the number of characters to 28 0 giving its users more opportunity to pass out their message. In the few years since its invention, Twitter has significantly grown thus becoming one of the primary social media platform used across the globe (Mei, etal, 2017) . It has offered businesspeople and other persons a chance to grow their business to achieve their objectives in the world market. An increasing number of characters greatly helped users in reducing time wasted in sending various tweets thus condensing their thoughts. In 2007 twitter saw significant developments in its growth during the southwest interactive conference. Users of Twitter exploded broadly thus becoming one of the fastest growing social networks. More than 60,000 tweets were sent per day durin g this event. As Twitter users started, growing users were able to create new jargons and various ways to use the service. According to, Carpenter, (2015) in the beginning users could not reply to one another on Twitter. This called for more innovations to be made concerning responding tweets thus leading to use of hashtags before identifying another user on a tweet. This was a significant step in the development of Twitter. By the end of 2018 twitter had achieved more than 300 million users globally. In conclusion, the introduction of Twitter in the social media platform played a critical role in bringing people close. People were able to communicate more efficiently using Twitter; this also saw rapid development in business. Rapid changes in technology played a vital role in the invention of Twitter , which has currently become one of the most leading social platforms. Even though it was faced with various challenges, its founders were able to overcome all these odds and thus to make it one of the most successful media platforms. References Carpenter, J. (2015). Galileos Rolling Ball experiment Essay Example

Galileos Rolling Ball experiment Essay Example Galileos Rolling Ball experiment Paper Galileos Rolling Ball experiment Paper Galileo in his rolling ball experiment investigated the acceleration of a ball rolling down an inclined plane, using a similar setup I will investigate how the time taken to roll down the inclined plane varies with the vertical height change. Theory: When two similar objects are thrown vertically downwards, they are in a state of free-fall. Both objects will hit the ground simultaneously; the force which causes these objects to fall down is the pull of gravity which is also the acceleration of these objects. As the object falls down, its speed increases hence its acceleration increases. Using the equation of motion; S= u t + 1/2 a t2 Since u = o, we can ignore initial velocity so: S = 1/2 a t2 Straight line equation: y = m x + c The variables in this experiment are: S and t2 When compared with the straight line equation: S = 1/2 a t2 y = m x a sin a cos sin = Component of acceleration down slope = g S = 1/2 (a sin) t2 Re-arranging the formula gives: S = 1/2 g t2 = = 1/2 g t2 y-axis gradient x-axis relating this to the equation of a straight line. If t2 is plotted at x-axis and at y-axis the gradient (m) will be equal to 1/2 g therefore, changing the height of the inclined slope and measuring the time period, the value of acceleration can be calculated. = 1/2 g t2 g = 2 Prediction: I think that as the ball will run down the slope its acceleration will increase and the time for the ball to roll down will decrease. Also if the vertical height (h) is increased, the time for the ball to roll down will decrease, i. e. it will travel faster due to increase in the force of gravity. Diagram: Method: Â  First setup the apparatus as shown in the diagram above by: Â  Placing a 2m ramp on a horizontal surface. : Having the ramp at an angle so it makes a slope for the ball to run down from, the ramp will be supported on a clamp-stand. Â  Put a mark on the ramp for where the ball will be released and where it will stop. Then measure the vertical height of the inclined slope and record it. Â  Place a cup at the end of the ramp where the mark is, so when the ball bearing reaches the end it will make a sound which will make it easy to stop the stopwatch. Â  Place a ball bearing at the highest point of the slope where the mark is. Â  Release the ball and simultaneously start the stopwatch. When the ball bearing reaches to the bottom of the slope where the mark is, then stop the stopwatch upon hearing the sound made by the ball on contact with the cup. Â  Repeat the experiment several times and get an average for all repeats to get a more accurate result. Safety: * When carrying out the experiment make sure the ramp is securely held on the clamp. * Handle the ramp carefully when carrying it around. Do not swing it around. * When changing the height, first remove the ramp then adjust the height before returning the ramp to its place. Vertical Height (h) in metres Time (s) Average time. Time squared (t2) 0. 10 10. 00 3. 88 4. 06 4. 06 4. 00 16. 00 0. 20 5. 00 3. 21 2. 89 2. 93 2. 99 8. 94 0. 30 3. 33 2. 38 2. 22 2. 38 2. 33 5. 43 0. 40 2. 50 1. 95 1. 99 2. 02 1. 99 3. 96 0. 50 2. 00 1. 89 1. 76 1. 82 1. 80 3. 24 0. 60 1. 67 1. 65 1. 66 1. 66 1. 66 2. 76 Results table: Graph: Evaluation: Although I carried out the experiment as accurately as I could there wree still many sources of error in the method I used. Firstly the error in my timing has been quoted as + 0. 2 s. this is because of my reaction time i. e. the time for the signal from the brain to be transferred to the hand. There is an error in both the starting and stopping of the stopwatch, which makes this the most significant source of error in this experiment. In order to improve the experiment the timing error needs to be reduced. This can be done by increasing the number of readings for every height. Increasing the number from 3 readings to 6 readings would half the percentage error in the results as shown below: Max % error (with 3 readings) = = 6. 7% Max % error (with 6 readings) = = 3. 3% From the above calculation it can be clearly seen that increasing the number of readings significantly reduces the % error by 3.4% or by half. Another way of increasing the accuracy of the timing would be to use a motion sensor to record the time. The maximum percentage error in the height measurement is: = 10% This error could be reduced by measuring the height of the clamp accurately using a ruler with a mm scale. The percentage error in the experiment was: Error in height + (2x error in time) = 10 + 6. 7 = 16. 7% From looking at the graph the points are scattered further away from the line of best fit as the height was increased. This is expected because the percentage error is greatest at these values.

HYPNOTHERAPY & NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING Essay

HYPNOTHERAPY & NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING - Essay Example When a person actually realizes where he wants to be in life, his dream will come true. Pillar three is about behaviour flexibility. To achieve an outcome, the person behaves in a certain manner. If this behavior pattern is nonproductive, it should be changed. This adaptability of the behaviour enhances the chances of the person to accomplish the desired results. Neurological levels help to understand the overall process of personal change issues. It identifies the best time and the best place to make necessary changes in a person which enables him to achieve success. The idea of capability focuses on talents, skills, resources, strategies and abilities that guide our behaviour and enables us to take the required action. The capabilities should be analysed properly so that we can deliberately make use of it whenever required. The values and beliefs in our lives influence the way that we act and think. If we think negatively about our performance of certain activity, we are bound to fell. If we develop the required skills, self-confidence will increase. This will have a positive impact on the perceived belief and will make necessary changes in limited beliefs. Making a change in one neurological level impacts overall neurological hierocracy in shape or form. For example if we join a group who gossips about our close friend, we will feel guilty. Our behaviour will contradict our personal value system concerning respect and integrity. This will down our character as a person from our own perspective. . The ‘map’ is referred to our mind or a person’s perception while; the ‘territory’ is about the impression of external fact or reality. However, this perception of external reality is only one possible interpretation. NLP does not view a person as defective or wrong. If the person is not good at one activity, they may be worthwhile at getting lost or discovering alternative routes to follow. NLP focuses on positive self-worth of

Making a Difference through Nursing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

Making a Difference through Nursing - Essay Example Since hepatitis C was first recognized in 1989, it has gained increasing significance. More than half the number of individuals exposed to HCV develop chronic infection; and among them around 20% to 30% develop liver cirrhosis and/ or hepatocellular carcinoma within twenty to thirty years. Improved diagnostic techniques and possibilities of therapeutic intervention have brought out the role of HCV infection in acute and chronic liver disease (Hentiges & Wands, 1997: 521). This paper proposes to examine the hepatitis C virus (HCV), its pathophysiology and various other dimensions of the infection including the public health implications, the importance of raising public awareness, clinical governance and surveillance. Hepatitis C infection has been found worldwide, especially in the southeast Asian countries, in northern African and Arabian countries, and with highest prevalences in the Ukraine and in the central African countries of Gabon and Cameroon, as well as in Egypt where up to 14.5% of the population is infected with the Hepatitis C virus. Size of the Problem: HCV infection in Hong Kong is associated predominantly with multiple blood transfusions (67% to 87% anti-HCV positive) and intravenous drug abuse (56% anti-HCV positive). However, the source of infection is unidentified in a large number of HCV carriers (Ho & Wu, 1995: 15). The world-wide prevalence of hepatitis C is estimated at 170 million people or 3% of the global population, with a disease spectrum ranging from mild to severe chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Most people infected with HCV are unaware of their clinical status, due to which the actual prevalence of the infection may be under-reported. Around 85% of infected persons are chronically infected by the virus, and 70% of the infected develop chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma

Factors that Motivate Consumers Towards Internet Shopping Assignment

Factors that Motivate Consumers Towards Internet Shopping - Assignment Example The same study quoted the definition of an e-market as â€Å"an interorganisational information system that allows the participating buyers and sellers to exchange information about prices and product offerings† (Bakos, 1991, p.295). An e-market was also described as â€Å"a way of conducting business by companies and customers performing electronic transactions through computer networks (Liu and Arnett, 2000, p. 34). Also, it is â€Å"a virtual realm where products and services exist as digital information and can be delivered through information-based channels† (Meuter, et al., 2000, p. 50). These various definitions of online/internet shopping/retailing as the more concrete media, system, or network, to the more abstract â€Å"virtual realm† is testament to the various levels this phenomenon affects the psyche and actions of the buying public. It begs the question, â€Å"What factors significantly influence shoppers to buy products over the internet?† From a cursory scan of academic literature, it appears that studies on what influences the online purchase decision may be categorized into three general sets of theories: behavioural, rational, and experiential. Based on this observation, this researcher shall classify the theories gathered from the survey of literature and discuss them in groups, then thereafter compare the groups of theories as this researcher perceived them. Rational The rationale to the inquiry as to customers’ purchase intentions, rather than their attitudes or tendencies to patronize internet shopping, is based on the theory of reasoned action by Ajzen and Fishbein (1980) which states that rational intention is a more powerful or compelling force compared to attitude or behaviour on the decision to purchase, and that the antecedents of intention are shopping orientations, online trust and prior online purchase experience. In determining customers’ attitudes towards internet shopping, early studies tended to touch on a wide range of factors including income, involvement, home shopping versus internet shopping experience, even attitude towards the retailers’ brand and attitude towards retailers’ websites. Along this line, Balabanis and Vassileiou (1999) found that high income favours internet shopping from retailers with strong brand names, and that high involvement with a product category affects adversely shopping from retailers’ sites with weak brands. Furthermore, it was determined that customers’ extensive home-shopping experience and positive attitudes towards a retailer’s web site both had positive effects on the shopper’s buying intentions, whether the product had a strong or weak brand (p. 361). Ling, Chai and Piew (2010) had likewise adopted the same approach to test multiple aspects of online shopping over a broad range of market segments to d etermine any general considerations of the decision to purchase online. Findings showed that such factors as impulse purchase intention, quality orientation, brand orientation, online trust, and prior online purchase experience all positively related to the customers’ intention to purchase online (p. 63). Behavioural The theories that adhere to the behavioural factors propose that customers tend to buy online because certain attitudes, values, and personality traits beyond the scope of reason compel the desire to do so. The result is that the purchase is not so much arrived at as a rational decision but a feeling that the purchase is desirable. Online shoppers’ actions are determined by three elements, namely affect (emotional feelings), intentions (desires), and behaviours, where behaviour is the product of two dimensions: internal

Less Effective Form Of Communication Media Essay

Less Effective Form Of Communication Media Essay Communication is the key thing that sets human beings apart from all the other animals. The human ability to communicate at a very sophisticated level has enabled us to build civilizations and to develop advanced technologies. Technology has increased incrementally since then and there have been huge leaps in communications technologies, such as the Internet. Whereas, the quality of the communication deteriorated as our ability to communicate rapidly via technology. The world today is a global world; we live in a global village and the world as we know it keeps decreasing due to the rapid growth of technology. The ever increasing speed at the development of new technology creates innovative ways of communicating and in more ways than one has changed the way people communicate. It will be argued here that although modern communication has some advantages, which include convenience, speed, dissemination, the disadvantages cannot be neglected, such as lack of content, language confusion . The role of modern technology provides methods that hinder interpersonal communication. This essay briefly provides a critical opinion on the potential disadvantages and possible dilemma with the use of electronic communication in interpersonal communication by provides examples of some interpersonal communication that rely on new technology . First, a rapid increase in communications technology has led to increased quantity of communication, but decreased quality. Technology is constantly changing the way we communicate. Although technology has made peoples life easier to communicate with others, it has caused the potential problem that the forms of communication to become less effective and less formal. Advances of communication technology have reduced the effectiveness of modern communication. The only forms of communication in many years ago were face to face, letters, and telephone. The switch to digital technology, like the invention of the internet has been the major influences on the form of how people communicate. (Boddy. 1) Communication is important to humans and a vital part of our world;. Human is a social animal and therefore requires communication as an essential tool for socializing. Focusing on interpersonal communication skills, Eunson (Eunson. 286) defines this as the processes that help, distort or bloc k communication of messages between individuals but communicating effectively requires some basic skills such as active listening, usage and interpretation of body language and facial expressions. However, technology has created different channels to enhance interpersonal communication, invention such as mobile phones, emails, social networks, has made for easier, faster and smarter ways of communicating. John Boynton Priestleyà ¢Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ã‚ ¬Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢s Paradox suggests that the rapid increase in communications technology has reduced effective communication (Eunson. 4-5). It is the growth in all aspects of life in the twenty-first century that have increased the emphasis put on interpersonal communication. As the world continues to experience more growth, expands its horizons and even becomes more and more connected through technological advances, this has continued to call for the carrying out of effective interpersonal dialogue. As a result of advancement in technology an d the associated rise in businesses where transactions in faraway countries get involved, the call to have and maintain quality conversation has become a reality now. The question that therefore rises here is whether quality communication existed at one point in time and was eliminated by technological advancement or it is the technology itself that has made people realize the importance of quality during interpersonal communication? The former could be more true than the later as argued by Priestley (McEvoy. 48). Effective communication has been categorized as one that would only involve a small group of people who have the ability to interact exclusively with each and therefore have the chance and ability to adapt their messages to suit their recipient specific needs and get immediate interpretations and response from them (Eunson: 6). Technology is turning things around and Priestleys paradox cannot be held in doubt. It is possible today to send an email within minutes to thousan ds of people all over the world. This is fast and good but the problem with this kind of communication is that it does not meet the criteria for effective communication. The thousands of people who receive these emails do not have a chance to react directly to the sender. To be noted also very well is that it is not possible to customize this kind of communication to suit the specific needs of every recipient. A general message would thus have to be sent to all people irrespective of their needs. There is no doubt here that quantity of messages sent is a guarantee but quality remains questionable. Nowadays, the Internet has been the biggest technological advance in communication since the invention of the telephone. The Internet has allowed a worldwide network that is accessible by anywhere, anyone, and anytime(Kraut et al. 49). The internet had a negative effect, which is a paradox, on social involvement and psychological wellbeing with new internet users.(Kraut et al. 52). Modern technology has had its benefits as well as disadvantages on communication. Priestley felt that it has reduced quality and increased quantity while there are opponents to this theory who feel otherwise. There is no doubt that technology in communication has increased quantity but the concern of quality remains to be concluded as per the specific case that would be considered. In some cases it may reduce quality while in other cases, quality has been shown to be enhanced. Moreover, electronic communication also has negative impacts on language skills. In the struggle to educate the next generation, literacy, creativity, and thinking are all being impacted by technology communication. Language is shortened and cannibalized. It becomes acceptable to employ shortcuts that can spill over into the workplace. Impatience may result when folks fed on sound bites are forced to confront lengthy books, complex texts and journal articles. Literature and the English language both suffer as evidenced by declining reading skills and compromised rules of grammar. This decline has the potential to diminish performance on all sorts of challenges, including critical job-qualifying exams and assignments. Another drawback to communication technology is that many people feel more isolated than connected even as we are now allow to communicate with more and more people through various technologies. Life has a lot of dramatic changed. through the socializing among people. the frequency of social meetings has reduced. An increasingly number of people are more care and concern about their online life rather than their real social life. Technological means have also affected nonverbal communication. The current generation is beome more lacks essential interpersonal skills, such as the ability to express the ideas and thoughts to others face-to-face. The increased frequency of communication through texting and chatting on websites is a major reason for this tendency. In face to face communication and nonverbal communication, like facial expressions and body language, reinforces peoples message. Nonverbal communication is not allow for peoceed via communication technology . The Internet has m ade it possible to keep in touch with people from anywhere in the world. Pelople also can communicate on text messaging and cell phones. This has led to some complaints that such technology has led to a decrease in face-to-face interactions. Communicating with someone face-to-face allows people to watch their nonverbal cues, such as a smile or a frown, and this is another layer of communication. Technology doesnt allow people to catch these sorts of nonverbal cues. As Dr. Pam Hayes, an Alaska psychologist said, I think there is the potential for greater richness in face-to-face interaction because you lose the facial expressions and body cues when youre doing work on the Internet. The subtle forms of communications are lost over the Internet.Lack of face-to-face interaction has reduced the nonverbal grasping power of individuals. Communication technology creates laziness of some people. For example, people who use electronic communication to contactt somebody in the same place are d isplaying lazy behavior. The from typically involves the social networking web sites like Facebook or MySpace. These sites not only create huge distractions to peoples everyday lives but also keep people have ultimately replaced face-to-face socializing and from doing what theyre supposed to do. One more negative impact which cannot be neglected is that not everyone has the same level of access with electric communication. Digital divide refers to the difference in communication technology skills within groups of people. Electric communication makes the gap between people who possess regular access to technology, such as computers and their related functions like ability to get on the Internet Communication technology makes the digital divide of people who do not have this access . In conclusion, although technology has made life easier to communicate, it has caused the forms of communication to become less formal and less effective. Along with the rapid increase of technological innovations, people are more and more connected in the globalized world of today. However, as a result of the new technologies from this information agebut are ironically more isolated from family and friends. Although the alleviate of communication may have been improved, our lives have become more impersonal consequently. Technology has indeed made potential negative impact on society and made interpersonal communication less effective. Work sited Boddy, William. Mangerial And Financial Accounting Report :: Business Accounting

Managerial and Financial Accounting Report The role of managerial accounting is increasing. These managers have to be able to increase effectively the involvement and size of organizations. These business managers also have to be aware of the rapid growth and enactment of technology. Managers also have to be familiar with the regulatory environment, be able to contend successfully globally and have an increase importance on excellence. When examining the major differences between financial and managerial accounting, we find that with financial accounting the information is reported in statements. The financial statements objectively and periodically report the results of past operations and the financial condition of the business according to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) (Vallabhaneni, 2003). Examples include shareholders, creditors, government agencies, and the public. On the other hand, managerial accounting information includes both historical and estimated data used by management in conducting daily operations, planning future operations, and developing overall business strategies (Vallabhaneni, 2003). Managerial accounting also includes information for decision-making, planning, directing, controlling an organization's operations, and appraising its competitive position. Managerial accounting has internal users of information. These users comprise of business managers at all levels in th e organization. Financial accounting uses external users of information. These users include stockholders, financial analysts, lenders, unions, consumer groups, and government agencies. This is hard data, and must meet audit criteria to be acceptable. Managerial Accounting rules are set within the company to carry out management objectives related to adding value to the company. Managerial accounting data must only be relevant for management decisions. As we take a closer look at reports, managerial accounting use cost of production reports for decision-making. These comprise preparing detailed plans, budgets, forecasts, and performance reports for internal decision makers. Managerial accounting aids managers plan and administrate the company's operations. Accountants prepare budgets to communicate management's goals in financial terms by identifying, measuring, accumulating, analyzing, interpreting, and communicating information. After a budget has been adopted, performance reports compare actual results with the budget. Cost accountants help management keep track of how much it costs a company to make the product, or service (Shpargalka, 1999). Financial accounting incorporates preparing business financial statements mainly for users outside the business. These reports are used by owners, potential owners of a business, and by people who have loaned company money. In addition, stockholders, suppliers, and banks also benefit from the financial reports that are generated (Horngreen, Stratton, & Sundem, 2002). The table below will explain the differences between financial and managerial accounting (Weygandt, Kieso, & Kimmel, 2001).

“Idiot Nation” by Michael Moore Essay

In the reading â€Å"Idiot Nation† by Michael Moore, he focuses on how the United States is becoming lazier and is being filled with idiots. Moore goes on to explain how our political system, lifestyles, and technology are the reason for our country’s becoming so idiotic. Nevertheless he believes the educational system is suffering the most. The American people as well as politicians are somewhat at fault as they continue to contribute to the regression of our educational system. Moore argues that politicians and the American people have continued to ignore the education system and have prioritized less important issues over future generation’s education. Admittedly I would have to agree by prioritizing less important issues, the education of future generations will continue to suffer. First of all politicians are partly responsible for America’s idiocy. The priorities of our politicians are unacceptable. According to Moore, our political leaders â€Å"ha ve decided it’s a bigger priority to build another bomber then to educate children† (135). As a result any schools throughout the United States have overflowing classrooms, outdated facilities, and below average teachers. Moore as well as myself feels that politicians should change their focus towards education. A focus on education would result in updated schools, structures and teachers. Politicians should always focus on education because today’s students will affect tomorrow’s history and future. Politicians and parents must work together in order to a focus on education. I believe that parents should responsible for maintaining adequate schools. They need to take action and be more involved in the well being of our schools. Instead of expecting politicians to make changes we can take the correct steps for a better educational system. One way we can help is by making libraries up to date and accessible to students. Another way we can help is by making sure students are receiving the correct nutrition from school lunches. Parents can setup their children for success by making sure that they have rested, completed their homework and prepared for school. We need to take action and work together as a whole to improve the education system in America. In order to improve our educ ational system we must be to  solve what’s wrong with it. Today our country seems to focus on technology. Before technology existed, almost everything was done by hand. People had to work hard in their jobs but in the world we live in today they rely on technology to the work for them. We even give children toys such as Ipads, which do not allow them to grow mentally. More says, â€Å"There are forty-four million Americans who cannot read and write above a forth-grade level-in other words, who are illiterates† (122). More and myself feel because we reply so much on technology, the ones paying the consequences our children. They are growing up in an environment where technology allows them to take the easy way out. The environment we allowing our children to grow up in is not only affect their education but their lifestyles. Many teenagers much rather stay update with there social media than reading a book, study, or learn about history. We are given three chances to gain education, in elementary, middle school, high school, and college. Many take part in gaining an education but many not even explore it. These education opportunities are to h elp our nation to become smarter and succeed. The lifestyles of teenagers have leaded them to feel not motivated to learn or do better in life. Another way my education was affected was by budget cuts made my to school. Programs that were offered were no longer available to me or my friends. For example, in the fifth grade our physical education class was cut due to lack of funding. This was something students looked forward too, it allowed us to play and be active. Another way was by our library was cut, so we are stuck with the same books every year. I could see how the lack of new books and physical education was affecting us in and outside the classroom. Moore was right in believing how the United States is becoming lazier and is being filled with idiots. Our political system, lifestyles, and technology are the reason for our country’s becoming so idiotic. In turn our educational system is suffering the most. Schools are no longer a place of personal expression, not allowed to think for them, or even allowed to rock the vote. I feel if we continue on the track we on right now we will ruin the education of tomorrow ’s generation.

Free Essays on Jolly Corner

In the short story, â€Å"The Jolly Corner,† Henry James portrays Spencer Brydon’s struggle towards the understanding of his true nature by divulging his intricate past, confronting his ghostly double, and exploring his terrifying paranoia, all with the aid and reassurance of his companion, Alice Staverton. Throughout this story, Spencer is on a journey to search for his true self. He thinks he is trying to find a ghost, but actually, he is looking for who he really is and how he is progressing towards becoming a better individual. Even though he is trying to discover who he really is, he observes that his lonesome life is too complex and difficult. But gratefully, he realizes that he is awakened from a dream with Alice Staverton by his side. Alice Staverton was the only person in his life who would always be there for him, always reminding him of who he was, before leaving New York. Spencer realizes how much of an impact it could have been if he hadn’t left. He â€Å"consistently neglected everything,† meaning that he ignored the outside world and kept to himself all the time. Spencer thinks that he knows what he’s doing and how he will be able to control his life. But doubtfully, he witnesses his alter-ego, his other self, as a result of leaving his homeland and coming back thirty-three years later. Alice Staverton was the only person in his life who would always be there for him, always reminding him of who he was, before leaving New York. Cute Thanksgiving Quotes

Cute Thanksgiving Quotes Thanksgiving Day dates back to the 17th century, when the Pilgrims of Plymouth, along with some Native Americans held a three-day celebration and a grand feast. The Pilgrims had suffered a lot; many died due to the severe cold and starvation. The next year, the Pilgrims reaped a rich harvest, and they decided to share their bounty. The community feast included many kinds of food corn, turkey, venison, fish, pumpkin, peas, onions, plums and nuts. Most of the food served on the first Thanksgiving has now become the staple for Thanksgiving dinner. Turkey took center-stage as the chosen fowl, and pumpkin pie earned its share of the limelight. In this way, Thanksgiving feast became a symbol of American culture. Richard BelzerWhat am I grateful for? Aside from my own great life, you mean? Water Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Water - Essay Example It has however proven impossible to implement this slogan as due to the fact that human beings are still destroying our planet. Pollution is one of the greatest threats to our planet. Non biodegradable materials are the major causes of pollution as they are unable to decompose and therefore harm the environment. The most common non bio-degradable material is plastic bottles. Plastic bottles are majorly produced for bottled water. It is true that bottled has a better taste and feel than tap water, is more pure and is an industry that cut our unemployment levels down, but this is nothing compared to the damage it causes to the environment. Furthermore, bottled water companies sell the water for very high prices despite the fact that they pay their workers very little money and therefore, this impacts our economy negatively. Bottled water would not have such a major impact on the environment negatively if people took the initiative to recycle the bottles. However, that’s not the case. In the year 2006 â€Å"Of the 36 billion bottles vended, only 7 billion empty water bottles were recycled.† However on the other hand bottled water can be seen to be a solution to some environmental problem. The human race has faced a lot of challenges in the recent past but the most significant one has been that one to do with water. The contamination of this scarce vital resource has been a thorn in the back of developing countries and most parts of the world. Water Contamination has grave consequences on the health of those taking it. Therefore, it would be true to say that due to the increasing population, there has been rise in the rate of contamination of the water. I am also of the opinion that the crisis of water is because of the rising population and the lack of education among the people (NPR, â€Å"Mideast Water Crisis Brings Misery, Uncertainty†). The social issues are contamination of the water and its ill

AARP (outline) Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

AARP (outline) - Research Paper Example The organization targets members of the society that are 50 years and above, since this is the segment of the population that is retired active participation in the professional field. According to Bouchard, Blair and Haskell (2012), this age bracket is also the most vulnerable to the effects of health, and poverty. Therefore, it is essential that their welfare is taken care of, and this is where AARP intervenes. It also advocates for the welfare of its members and has significant influence among the lobbyists in the US. The organization boasts of a membership of 38 million individuals, making it one of the largest organizations based on membership numbers in the US. The status of the organization came under scrutiny with the senate discussing whether it should be classified as a business or if it should be given the status of a nonprofit. Eventually AARP was cleared though some doubts over its operations still lingered. According to Schmidt et al. (2012), AARP is a non-partisan organization in that it takes a neutral stand in matters of politics. This means that the organization does not openly endorse political candidates or takes part in fundraising activities for aiding a political candidate to be elected. They take this stand in order to avoid a clash of interest when carrying out their mandate (Schmidt et al, 2012). According to information posted on the organization’s website, the organization is aiming to ensure that the elderly realize their rights in order for them to remain an integral part of the society. This can only be achieved when the elderly can access the basic needs, and have financial independence. This will make the elderly feel secure, hence improving the quality of life of their members (AARP, 2012). The organization is famous for the mandate that it carries out among the American population. The organization has taken up the task of addressing the issue affecting the elderly
